The Club of Leaders Good 2 Work with (http://www.good2work.ru and http://www.good2work.com) is a virtual place where leaders of different levels, industries and countries can learn from and about each other in the most innovative and entertaining way - by means of pre-recorded video conversations. The club was established in April 2008.
The founder of the club Yuri Barzov personally conducts interviews with VIP participants and guests. Prior to launching the Good2Work project Yuri was a partner with the leading executive search companies Ward Howell and Spencer Stuart. He is the founder of 200+ thousands strong learning community of managers ‘E-xecutive' (http://www.e-xecutive.ru).
As a former executive search professional Yuri discovered that competency based structured interviews which are normally used for executive assessment can, with some modifications and in combination with modern streaming video technologies, serve as powerful leadership development tool. The interview also helps its viewers to get a better understanding of the culture and values of organizations which our participants represent.
The interview, to achieve its target should be only conducted by our consultant or an experienced associate.
The Interview Details
Our consultant is taking the interview together with an associate who makes the recording, edits and prepares the video & text packages for the consultant's and participant's approval.
The interview normally lasts about one hour. Consultant is asking questions about person's strongest (or most important) leadership competencies (traits). We ask participant to name a competency, to describe it and to give some examples. We also ask about values and ask to give examples of value based behavior.
Then we prepare 2-3 packages of short clips. Each package has a common subject usually a competency or a set of values.
We put video packages into a private group at our site and provide participant with a private account in the club to get access to her/his content for review. Upon approval we publish the package at our site and send an alert to the registered subscribers.
Interview Structure and Questions
1. What is your strongest leadership competency?
2. Name it.
3. Describe how you do it.
4. Please give a specific example of how you applied it.
5. Can you explain more specifically how you achieved desired results in this concrete case?
6. What values do you adhere in life?
7. Can you recall a situation when you had to follow your values by rejecting a decision that seemed to be quite appealing or obvious?
(then we ask some extra questions - it is not necessary to answer them)
8. Is there any question that you would like to ask other members of the club/other interviewed people?
9. Can you briefly explain business of your company, so that a 12-14-year-old could understand?
Sometimes to make the answers richer and more specific we return to the same subject several times and ask questions to clarify the answers to the core questions of the interview. Moreover, we can ask you to answer some questions from people we interviewed before. Participants will answer any of these questions only if the question is interesting for them.
Interview Procedures
We take all efforts to make an interviewed individual to behave as naturally and openly as possible:
1. We conduct interviews with a mini HDV camera without any lights, makeup or rehearsals at a place of work of the interviewed individual.
2. Our interview is a face-to-face conversation not a presentation or a public speech.
3. Our consultants and associates conduct interviews in a relaxed and friendly manner.
Interview Presentation
Each article comprises a flash player with written questions of the interviewer (real or made up to slice the answers into absorbable for the viewer 30-90 seconds long clips). After activating control buy clicking the display the viewer can pick up and view answer to any question in any order. The player is accompanied by a written text comprising all questions and summaries of answers to all of them.
