Ruben Vardanian is Troika Dialog Group’s Board Chairman and CEO. An employee at Troika Dialog since the company’s founding, Mr. Vardanian became head of the company in 1992. Since that time, Mr. Vardanian has solidified his role as a key figure in Russia’s capital markets.
Mr. Vardanian belongs to the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, where he sits on the Management Committee. He also serves as Chairman of the organization’s Corporate Governance Committee, as well as Arbitrator of its United Committee on Corporate Ethics.
Mr. Vardanian is Board Chairman at two companies: Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and AmeriaBank. He is a Board member at several more: RusSpetsStal, Zhaso Insurance Company, International Airport Sheremetyevo, AvtoVAZ, URSA Bank, AK Bars Bank, NOVATEK and the New Economic School in Russia.
In his work as a Board member, Mr. Vardanian chairs several committees: the Board’s Personnel and Remuneration Committee (Avtovaz), the Personnel and Remuneration Committee (AK Bars Bank), and the Corporate Governance and Compensation Committee (NOVATEK). He is a Member of NOVATEK’s BOD Audit Committee, a Member of the BOD Committee for Strategic Planning and a Member of the BOD Audit Committee of URSA Bank.
Mr. Vardanian served as CEO at Rosgosstrakh from 2002–04; he then served as Chairman of the Board from 2004–05.
Mr. Vardanian is President of the SKOLKOVO Moscow School of Management; he is also a member of its Coordination Council.
Mr. Vardanian is a member of two international commerce organizations: the Russia-Kuwait Business Council under the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – where he serves as Chairman – and the Council of the National Committee for Economic Affairs with Japan.
In addition, Mr Vardanian is a member of the following groups: the Expert Council, the Presidential Council for National Priority Projects and Federal Population Policies, the State Council for Competitiveness and Entrepreneurial Business under the Government of the Russian Federation, the Marsh & McLennan Companies International Advisory Board, the Russian branch of the Young Presidents' Organization, and the Coordination Board of the Armenia 2020 project.
Mr. Vardanian also participates in the Investment Committee of the Russia New Growth Fund, the joint Private Equity Fund of Troika Dialog and Temasek Holdings, and the Endowment Fund’s Advisory Board of the New Economic School in Russia. Finally, he is Director of a fund established by the International Baccalaureate Organization to promote education worldwide.
Mr. Vardanian was named “Businessperson of the Year” by the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, with recognition for his “significant contribution to business in Russia and commitment to the highest standards of business ethics”. He was also named “Investment Banker of the Year” in RosBusinessConsulting’s annual “Person of the Year” award for 2003. In 2001, Fortune magazine, writing about the next generation of global leaders, recognized Mr. Vardanian as one of “25 Rising Stars.” Mr Vardanian is ranked as one of Russia’s top three business leaders by the National Association of Managers. In 2004, he won Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Russia. That same year, he was named “Investment Banker of the Year” by NAUFOR. In 2006, Mr. Vardanian was awarded the prestigious “ARISTOS” prize – handed out annually by the National Managers Association and Kommersant Publishing – with recognition for “special merit in business development.” In 2008, he was awarded “Best Reputation on the Financial Market” by Finance magazine.
Mr Vardanian is a graduate of Moscow State University, where he earned a degree in economics, graduating with Honors. His post-graduate resume includes training at BANCA CRT in Turin, Italy, Merrill Lynch’s Emerging Markets Training Program in New York City (1992), as well as coursework at INSEAD (France) and the Harvard Business School.
