Birger Steen, General Manager, Microsoft Russia

Birger Steen, General Manager, Microsoft RussiaBirger Steen has been the General Director of the Microsoft Rus LLC since August of 2004 and heads the Board of Directors of Microsoft’s Russian office. In this position Mr. Steen is subordinate to Vahe Torossian, Vice-President of Microsoft in the Central and East European region.

Birger Steen has come to Moscow from Oslo, where he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Microsoft office in Norway for two years. Before joining Microsoft in 2002, he acquired a great deal of management experience working in key post at various firms in Sweden and Norway. Prior to March of 2002, Birger Steen was the first vice-president at the Eniro AB. From March of 2000 through January of 2002, Birger Steen held the position of president and CEO at the Scandinavia Online AB. Before this, Steen managed the Schribsted ASA for three years in the position of executive vice-president and worked at McKinsey&Company, Inc., in Norway (1993-1996), as well as the Norwegian Oil Trading AS in Lithuania (1992-1993). Birger Steen graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1990. he holds the degree of  Master of Computer Science and Industrial Engineering. Birger Steen received an MBA degree at the prestigious INSEAD business school in France in 1994. Birger Steen can speak five languages: English, Norwegian, Russian, French and Polish.
