Business Cartoons: Lighthearted Look at Leadership

16.10.2007

We have collected more than a hundred stories about Western and Russian leaders. We were thinking for quite a while, how we could systematize them without being boring. Finally we just boiled down each particular story to the name of the situation it describes and divided them all into a number of small groups of similar situations. Then we asked our computer graphics artist Varvara Lyubovnaya to illustrate each group by flash animations. The ideas of plots for animation were collectively born at a series of brainstorming sessions. So please don’t judge us too severe!

We propose that you first see and enjoy our cartoons. And if you follow the link to the next page you will able to read real stories (one for each group of situations) in which instead of funny primitive little men you will find well-known leaders facing real workplace problems.

Even surrounded with betrayers and phonies, severe enemies and pretended friends, a real leader is smart enough to survive, generous enough to forgive and polite enough to let his offenders be first.

Sometimes relations between a (new) leader and his (new) team are not completely smooth. It is very important to identify informal leaders and find common ground with them instead of leaving them floating in the air.

They heard these mantras hundreds of times. They perfectly know every sound of a magic tambourine. They have a fresh mammoth to cook and some broken huts to repair. There should be some way to finish this meeting off!

“We cannot let him go. He knows too much!” It is not a blockbuster about spies and special agents. It is an endless saga about a leader and his thankless star employees who always want to leave for some reason. But holding on too tight might land you on your rear!

The most important thing in building a leader’s career is to be consistent. If you decide to be an entrepreneur, make some money, f*ck your boss and do your own business. If you decide to be a manager, climb the stairs, make a company profitable, then take the team and the clients, f*ck your boss and do your own business.

“Let our investors’ ghosts come with the sounds of our sacred corporate hymn, and we will convince them to bring us money!” If your company runs out of money, people, knowledge or anything else, start striking a magic tambourine! Our role models know some other methods of overcoming the lack of resources, and you can probe them as well. Of course, along with striking a tambourine.

No doubt that everyone who is being promoted does not deserve it. Except us. But how to keep our hearts from indecent feelings for all these lucky rascals who get promoted earlier than we do? Don’t fall into despair! Say “no” to human vices! The only way of once and forever getting rid of envy, jealousy, and all other evils inseparably linked with any promotion is to become the really big boss yourself!

Headquarters is too far away and executives sit too high. And yes, they really think they know how to light the fire in the most effective way! But sometimes smoke can get in their eyes.

It is a well-known fact that from time to time any business turns out to be on the horns of a dilemma. But a really good leader always knows which way he has to lead his team to successfully avoid getting stuck.

Now it is time to read the real stories!
