Michael Calvey is the founder and Co-Managing Partner of Baring Vostok Capital Partners, the largest private equity firm focused on Russia and the CIS. Baring Vostok's funds currently own 20 businesses with combined turnover of approximately $1.3 billion and operations primarily in the media, financial services, and oil & gas industries.
The firm is presently investing its fourth fund with total capital of $1.5 billion. Baring Vostok is or has been a major shareholder in Burren Energy plc, CTC Media, Yandex, Volga Gas plc, Caspian Bank, Europlan Leasing, Golden Telecom, Gallery Media, Sladco, Syktyvkar Forestry, Vimpelcom, and other leading CIS companies.
Mr Calvey is the Chairman of the Investment Committee for all of Baring Vostok's funds and is also a member of the Investment Committees of affiliated Baring funds in China and India. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council and the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association.
